Does anybody else sometimes feel like they truly don’t know themselves?
For me, I see my personality as the way I am, but never really take the time to dive deep into what I am made of – my strengths, weaknesses and my personal preferences. But as I have been writing for Gamer In A Gown, I have been trying to be much more introspective and understanding over who I am and how it affects me as well as my writing. As a result, I have found myself much more drawn towards personality quizzes recently.
There is some kind of comforting solace behind taking personality and behavioral quizzes. It is almost like you have an unbiased opinion of who you are looking in. Instead of relying on people around you or yourself to look into your personality, quizzes are an easy, private and educational way to help you break down years of emotional baggage and truly get to know yourself.
This week I wanted to gather and share some of my favorite free personality quizzes that help you get to know yourself a bit better.
That being said, I do want to note that personality quizzes will not automatically fix any underlying issues or insecurities. They also cannot replace the value of human interaction and expression through friendships or therapy. There is also absolutely no guarantee that what these tests say about you is 100% true – keep in mind that EVERYBODY is different and unique in their own way and that it is impossible to truly box yourself into a single, finite category. These tests should be strictly be used for fun and nothing more!
To me, the Myers-Briggs test is the most scary accurate personality test I have ever taken. This test asks you a series of questions based on working habits, socialization, and other personal preferences and assigns you with a four-letter personality type. I am a huge fan of 16 Personality’s take on the Myers-Briggs exam because it not only shares what your personality type is, but it also provides a plethora of helpful information, including celebrities with your same personality type, how your personality affects your work style and relationships, your strengths and weaknesses, and even provides a helpful list of careers that best fit your personality.
I am personally an ENTP, otherwise known as “The Debater”. Reading through my results, I was shocked at how much this personality sounded exactly like me. What can I say? I can never really turn down a good debate or chance to root for the underdog.
The Enneagram test is a tough one because it is easy to feel personally victimized by it. The Enneagram is a personality test that gets a bit deeper than any other test on this list. It not only asks you questions about your personal preferences but also gets a bit deeper by asking deep-rooted emotional questions. After completion of the test, you will be appointed with a personality type ranging from type 1 to type 9.
The Enneagram and I have a love/hate relationship, mostly because it doesn’t bullshit me about my personality. I am a Type 6 (The Loyalist) with an even wing distribution and a Type 4 (The Individualist) backup. What I like about the Enneagram is the fact that it is unapologetically honest with you about your personality. It will dive deep into your strengths but will go even deeper into your weaknesses and insecurities. I find this kind of brash honesty pretty refreshing, almost as something we all know deep down, but it feels relieving when it is truly brought to life.
Whether you are in a dedicated relationship or are as single as a Pringle, the Love Language test is a must!
The Love Langauge test will ask you a series of choice-based questions surrounding moments with others that mean most to you. Do you value being kissed on the forehead or does it mean more when your significant other does the dishes without being asked?
There are a total of five love languages: Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time and Physical Touch.
I have discovered after taking my test that I have a much higher affinity to value words of affirmation, which did not come off as too shocking for me. I am a highly emotional person who, let’s be honest, deals with self-confidence and self-worth issues. Being verbally reminded that I am valued and loved truly makes my heart soar.
If you are in a relationship, I also highly recommend that you have your significant other take the test as well. I forced Kevin to go through it one night and found out that his love language is acts of service. Not only is it extremely different from mine, but it really gave me some inspiration over things I can do to make him feel appreciated. Moving forward I am trying harder to pick up after myself, help out wherever I can and run errands without him asking.
The Power Color test is extremely interesting because it actually requires you to travel back in time to your childhood. Unlike the other tests listed above that asks you to input your preferences, attitudes, and opinions as of today, the Power Color test challenges you to explore your behaviors as a child. This test measures your results and assigns you a color based on your answers. These results vary between 4 colors: red, white, yellow or blue.
I personally feel this test is the most challenging on the list because it requires 100% honesty without falsely manipulating results. We all want to believe that we were the perfect child, but being real here, we all had as many confusing and undesirable traits back then as we do now.
I was personally a very loyal, worry-prone and timid kid, and as a result, I am calculated as a blue. While we all evolve and grow as the years pass, it is still pretty shocking to see how much my childhood behavior and color designation matches up with my personality today.
So, this is an INSANELY unpopular thing for me to admit here, but I actually never got 100% into the Harry Potter books growing up. My interests personally leaned towards binging Pokemon and The Sims in the early 2000s, which caused me to prioritize video games over reading. But I do remember feeling a huge sense of connection and appreciation for the Harry Potter series following the movie adaptations. My mom, sister and I made it our tradition to go to the movies and watch each one together.
Not only is Harry Potter a great storyline, J.K. Rowling put together one of the most advanced personality quizzes known to man: The Sorting Hat quiz. No matter if you are a Harry Potter fiend or have never read a page of the books, it is life or death to make sure you know your house alligence. The introduction of house sorting quizzes on Pottermore have made the process of determining if you are more brave, intelligent, kind or cunning a cakewalk.
After retaking the test recently, I found out that I am now sorted as a cunning Slytherin. This wasn’t too much of a shock for me as I have often fallen between this house and Ravenclaw. Slytherins value loyalty, creativity, and ambition, a common theme amongst my choices above.
